SUMMER UPDATE AND FEATURE ON “MEN”

Wow, it looks like I haven’t been around in a while. I’m here, but barely. It’s been a crazy summer, to say the least. There has been so much going on. On top of my computer running out of memory, and not having the internet at home, its been difficult to keep up here on DA.

My crazy summer began on my son’s last day of school when I got home from class and found out he had been hit by a car while riding his bike. He ended up with a broken ankle. A few days later he had surgery and is now on the mend. We’ll find out today if he can start putting pressure on his foot. He’ll be in a boot for another 6-10 weeks and then will have physical therapy for a while after that. Basically his summer is shot, and I’ve used most of my vacation time with doctors.

I may have mentioned earlier that my daughter had moved across the country just after graduating from college. Well, she quickly decided she didn’t like it out there and wanted to come home. So, three days after my son’s surgery, I flew out to Phoenix, Arizona, stayed with her for a few days, and then drove back home with her. Trust me. This was no vacation. We didn’t go anywhere or see anything. So close to the Grand Canyon, but we didn’t go. But, I did get a nice tan while I was out there. Because we didn’t do anything out there, I didn’t get any pictures. Oh, and she didn’t have air conditioning in her car. It was a long ride home.

Other than that, it’s been the usual: work, school, homework. I did my second photo shoot for my niece, which was a complete disaster. I have a lot to learn. But seeing that I’m working toward being a photojournalist and not a portrait photographer, I’ll be a little easier on myself.

Today, my van died. So I get to throw more money away on that. Oh well. Let’s hope the Fall brings better times.

Now for a feature on a category that is sorely overlooked here on DA – "Men." We need more photos of men, folks.

My Clubs:

I just wanted give you a quick update on what's been going on. I think it's ironic that I finally have a digital camera and that I haven't been submitting photos lately. Part of the reason for that is that I've been very busy - I just finished a class, my daughter graduated from college and moved to the other side of the country, and I did my first photo shoot. All of this has kept me on the go.

About the shoot: One of my professors had asked me, when I was in her class, if I'd be interested in taking pictures for her t-shirt company calle "I Love T." [link]
These t-shirst have the word 'Love' displayed on them in a different language from around the world. The're really beautiful! Anyway, she made me feel very comfortable about the shoot, knowing I am a beginner. And all of the models are simply friends of hers. I'd love for you to check out some of the pics that I have posted on Flickr. [link] I didn't really want to submit any of them here on DA because they're not the type of photos that would get looked at. But I wanted to spice up my journal entry a little. Here are just a few:



I really enjoyed doing the shoot (even though I more photojournalistic) and hope there are more opportunities for them.

It's Springtime, finally. But we're in an inbetween place here. The trees are bare and brown. The grass is brown with some green showing through. And everything else is grey. The sky isn't even a brilliant blue yet. I'm waiting patiently for my tulips to bloom. Maybe then I'll have something to take a picture of. My city is kind of small and it's not really that pretty. There are no mountains or waterfalls. Just some hills and a river that is, well, brown. So, until some color starts to show through here in the great state that is shaped like a winter mitten, I'll have to rely on the beautiful DA art for some scenery.

And just a word about my latest submissions. I've been cleaning up my computer, trying to free up some space by deleting photos I don't need. I came across some of my very first submissions to DA, and decided to make a few updates. Most of those imagaes were uploaded with nearly no edits. (How could I? I had no idea how to use Photoshop! )
